Colin Pillinger COLIN PILLINGER

"In 1969 I was lucky enough to be involved in the Apollo programme - trips to JSC and NASA's Launch Site inspired me. I'm sure it will have the same effect on any would-be space explorers."

Colin Pillinger is a planetary scientist at the Open University. He worked on the 2003 Beagle 2 Mars lander mission and the 2004 Genesis spacecraft, and was awarded a CBE in 2003.

Michael Foale COLIN MICHAEL FOALE

Colin Michael Foale PhD CBE (born 6 January 1957) is a Anglo-American astronaut. He is a veteran of four space shuttle missions and extended stays on both Mir and the International Space Station. He was the first Briton to perform a space walk, and holds the record for most time spent in space by a US citizen: 374 days, 11 hours, 19 minutes.

Kate Bellingham KATE BELLINGHAM

"I'm delighted to be involved with the Edge Into Space competition. It's a really exciting way to encourage as many young people as possible to be creative with science, and see the potential of a scientific career. As an engineer myself, I know how important science is to the future wealth and health of our country - but I also know that it can be good fun, highly rewarding, and lead to great things! I hope this competition helps spread the word. After all, what bigger and better top prize could there be?"

Kate Bellingham has presented Tomorrow's World and broadcast for the Open University, the BBC and Channel 5 amongst a wealth of others. She is President of Young Engineers, the national network of engineering clubs in schools and colleges.
